Of course, it's always possible to push this film further. HP5 even has a recipe in HC-110 that'll push it as high as ISO 12,800 — but pushing this far can result in unsharp, overly grainy negatives that lack tonal range. For this Ilford HP5 Plus 400 review, I loaded up my Nikon F3 and Yashica-A and shot with this film stock at its base 400 ISO, pushed +1 stop to 800 ISO, and pushed +2 stops to 1600 ISO to give you an idea of what the film is able to do! Nominally rated at ISO 400, it yields negatives of outstanding sharpness and fine grain under all lighting conditions. HP5 PLUS has been formulated to respond well to push processing and film speeds up to EI 3200/36 are achievable with ILFORD MICROPHEN developer maintaining good shadow detail and well separated mid-tones with sharp grain.

I tried pushing some Portra 400 to 800 and developed as normal and it was not good. I should have developed a little longer. A good lab should be able to handle this for you, but you will need to let them know you pushed the film. With developing black and white at home, it's a little easier.

Today was my weekly antique visit! like always, I had with me my trusty Minolta 7 coupled with the wondrous Helios 44-2.  

I use FP4 and HP5 rated at nominal speed as standard films and Rodinal as a standard developper, usually diluted at 1+50.
