I bought this old W126 fairly cheap (by standards here in Thailand) with the most horrible engine imaginable, a diesel Nissan RD28. It felt like it was producing around 10 horsepower and sounded like a fishing boat. There is a certain element of "sacrilege" when talking about swapping non MB engines into MB body, which I understand to some extent.

To get the engine to fit the car was converted to rack and pinion steering rack from a 1988 Mustang and the crossmember was removed for the GTO oil pan. The transmission tunnel had to widened as well. To get the headers to fit on the steering side they had to wrap around the steering shaft.

From the beginning, my point, and the OP's in his very clear post , was that he wants a W126, with a V8 engine and he was wanting to change the engine. Didn't see him reference "lumps", whatever they are. Can't imagine why anyone, looking in the price range of W126s, would ever consider the massive risk of going for an elderly Merc V12 (W140) over a known-to-be reliable Toyota V8.
