It definitely does work on the Z170-A. You also need a PTT compatible Intel processor, for example the 6700k. You can tell your CPU has PTT if you look up its specs and it says "Intel®

So, in theory, my mobo supports TPM 2.0 via firmware even though it doesn't have a TPM chip or an expansion slot for a TPM card. Unfortunately, as I said, the BIOS doesn't expose the PTT setting!

This allows you to enable PTT on an intel cpu that does have PTT. For some reason, the Z170-A seem to not have it. I am using an intel i7 6700k. I am posting 3 sources that verify that z170 should have pch-fw, 6700k does have PTT, a video of someone who actually did it on his own Z170-Pro bios using a 6700k.
